The Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova
The Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova was established on 25 September 1991 pursuant to Decision no. 537 of the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The Institute of National Economy of the Ministry of Economy and two faculties within the State University -“Economics”, ”Trade Economics and Commodity Science” - lay the foundation of the Academy.

The faculty of Economics was founded at the State University, in August 1953, by enrolling 52 students in “National Economy Planning”, and “Finance”.
Between 1964 and 1977, the faculty of Economics was a division of the Polytechnic Institute, Chisinau. Since 1977, the faculty of ”Trade Economics and Commodity Science” was the second economic faculty founded at the State University, on the basis of Moscow Union Trade Institute Division (1960-1977).

At present, the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova is a modern university complex, organized into 6 faculties, 27 chairs, 3 departments, 6 centres, 13 offices and services, a business incubator and the National College of Trade.

The AESM has a sound material resource basis: a scientific library, a centre of multimedia, a number of centres for post-graduate training and consulting, Master’s and Doctorate studies offices, and other subdivisions, 5 buildings equipped with the latest technologies; 7 dormitories with study rooms; a modern sports complex; 27 computer classrooms, connected to Internet; a rehabilitation centre and a recreation facility in Vadul lui Voda village.

As of 1992 over 18 thousand graduates have been awarded the diploma of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. At present, more than 16 thousand undergraduate, Master’s and Doctorate students are trained at AESM, and 29 Doctors Habilitatum and more than 200 Doctors of Science undertake their teaching activity.

 

THE MULTIMEDIA CENTRE

The MULTIMEDIA Centre of the AESM scientific library was inaugurated on 23 September 2004.

  • to provide the users with the most complete teaching and learning information support;
  • to provide access to the networks and the Internet;
  • to acquire a substantial number of multimedia information stations, offering them to students, academic teachers and external users alike;
  • to attract investments for the informational infrastructure and resource development;
  • to provide information on the scientific research results within AESM;
  • to preserve valuable collections by creating electronic copies and ensuring distance access.

The target group of the Multimedia centre are students, Master’s and Doctorate students, the academic teaching staff, specialists in finance and banking, statistics centres and businessmen. They represent 89% of the total number of the AESM library subscribers (14825 active users). External users may also benefit from the Multimedia Centre services.

Facilities. The Multimedia Centre is an integral part of the AESM library. It is located in Building “B”, open Monday to Saturday from 08:00 a.m. –20:00 p.m., with a 69 seating capacity.

Conditions of Access. To have full access to the Multimedia Centre services, the users should present the AESM library bar-coded identity cards. The students have a free two-hour daily access. The academic teaching staff may benefit from the Multimedia centre services by completing a standard form, access being unlimited and free of charge. The external users are generally charged as per AESM Library Regulation.

Equipment:

  • equipment and inherent installations, furniture and auxiliary resources;
  • server to stock data bases and provide access to the Intranet/ Internet;
  • 70 computers;
  • 2 scanners A4, with optical recognition software;
  • 4 printers;
  • a multimedia projector.
